Functions of Nitrate Nitrogen;

  • It has an effect on rapid and visible growth in the plant.
  • It is not volatile and does not bind to soil particles, so it is available to the plant at any time. It is generally the preferred nitrogen source for all horticultural crops and important agricultural crops. It promotes the uptake of cations such as potassium, calcium and magnesium by the plant.

Duties of Calcium;

  • It strengthens the cell wall, resulting in better quality, shelf life and marketable crop yields.
  • It helps to increase the strength of the cell wall, thus making the plant more resistant to diseases and pests.
  • It contributes to the improvement of the soil structure and also to the formation of ideal root development for a highly productive plant.

Calcium Deficiency

Blossom end rot in tomatoes, tip blight in cucumbers, and inner rust stains on potatoes are some of the common signs of calcium deficiency. Since the uptake of calcium to the plant is passively by transpiration, when the plant needs calcium, it is necessary to have fully water-soluble calcium in the root zone.
