While the agricultural sector plays an important role in the Iranian economy, the drought experienced in recent years has caused developments in the sector to be below expectations.

In order to overcome these negativities, the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture has introduced some programs such as the improvement of irrigation systems. One of the issues that the Ministry has determined and followed seriously in this regard is the development and dissemination of greenhouse production throughout the country.

80% of fruits and vegetables grown in greenhouses in Iran are exported. Considering the country's approaches to increase export items other than oil, increasing agricultural exports gains even more importance.

Plant production in greenhouses is one of the most profitable methods of today's agriculture sector and can be defined as one of the main production strategies of countries. While greenhouses provide high quality and stable production, they are a suitable way to combat drought and make optimum use of water resources.

In Iran, the need for the development of greenhouses is now widely recognized, as the country seriously pursues the two main goals of strengthening domestic production and increasing non-oil exports to achieve self-sufficiency.

While many supportive measures are taken for this purpose, Iran should also benefit from the experiences of countries that have had significant achievements and progress in the field of greenhouse cultivation.
