With increasing demand for sustainable and locally grown products, IKEA has partnered with Infarm to grow high-quality greens in the restaurants of its 3 stores in Germany. Infarm and IKEA carefully selected types of greens to complement the chain's meal offerings. With this partnership, IKEA aims to inspire its employees and customers to lead healthier and more sustainable lives.

Customers of IKEA Kaarst, IKEA Duisburg and IKEA Munich-Eching can watch Infarm's herbs such as dill, curly parsley and Italian basil grow on in-store vertical farms, while at the same time enjoying the aromas and flavors of these delicious herbs when ordering from the restaurant.

A healthy and sustainable diet and growing awareness of the potentially harmful effects of chemicals commonly used in food production have led to the development of many new agricultural technologies and approaches. Infarm's vertical farms of different sizes are an example of this technology. As a fast-growing global agriculture company, Infarm relies on its products to grow crops vertically without pesticides, using 95% less water and space than conventional agriculture.

“The Infarm concept convinced us because we can embody the issues of sustainability and healthy eating for our employees and customers in a prominent place like our furniture stores,” says Tanja Schramm, Country Food Manager at IKEA Germany. “As part of our People & Planet Positive strategy, we aim to inspire and empower people to lead healthier, more sustainable lives. That's why we're increasingly focusing on plant-based foods and meals that have a lower environmental impact and at a price everyone can afford."

“Infarm and IKEA come from different industries, but we have one thing in common: our industries have a goal of fundamentally changing the current situation in how we produce our food and how we live,” says Daniel Kats, Infarm Vice President of Corporate Sales.

IKEA restaurants are one of the most visited places in the world. In 2021, 2.5 million people ate at these Swedish restaurants in Germany. Starting with three locations in Germany, Infarm officials also clearly see the benefits of relocating store farms to restaurants and giving IKEA customers, especially those who have not tried their products before, the chance to complement their meals with our delicious herbs.
