Did you know that a sustainable crop production is an absolute necessity for life in our only world? We must achieve this on agricultural lands, which do not show any increase in contrast to the increasing population, and even decrease day by day with the interventions of human beings.

We can get through this difficult process only by acting together and taking the right steps together. If you want, let's explain this subject by giving answers to some frequently asked questions.

1) It is calculated that the world population will increase by 35% in 2050. The increase in crop production will need to be more than 35%. Is this the right approach, what do you think?

While it may seem true, in reality we will need more crop production increases. Did you know that close to 1 billion people in the world are currently struggling with hunger? As stated in the question, by 2050, 2 billion more people will be added to our population.

From the outside, it can be thought that the need for food will increase by 35% in parallel with this increase in the world population. However, scientific calculations emphasize that the facts will not be so. As you know, as the economic levels of societies increase, their consumption of vegetable/animal protein and therefore their need for them increases, just like in our country.

In the next 20-25 years, as the welfare level of the developing countries will increase, more protein foods will be included in the nutrition programs in line with the increase in the number of people. Therefore, according to the latest figures of the World Food and Agriculture Organization, despite the 35% increase in population, the increase in crop production should be 60-100%.

The growth rate of crop production must be greater than population growth!

2) We know and insist that we are right, that the most effective solution to meet our future crop production needs is not to open new lands for crop production. Can we see you with us, what do you think?

‍‍

REPLY:

If you are with us at this point, you can be sure that you have already made your name among the good fighting for the future of worldly life. As stated before, even today, herbal production in the world is not enough to solve the problem of starvation of nearly 1 billion people. We will need to achieve 90% of the increase in crop production by 2050 with an increase in yield and crop production intensity. Did you know that human beings have changed about 40% of the land that has not been covered with ice until now for plant and animal production, and 15% for our other needs? Yes, we've made changes in the world, risking a lot.

Mankind has changed about 40% of the land that is not covered with ice for plant and animal production and 15% for other needs, and any further change will put the world's life at risk.

Therefore, we must achieve this increase in production in a world where further alteration would put lives at risk. In other words, since it is obvious that we cannot open more plant production areas, we can only achieve this increase by buying more products per unit area than today. This will be achieved by the more and more effective use of fertilizers in plant nutrition activities, which are among the plant production practices such as breeding, plant protection, soil cultivation, etc. This means getting up to twice as much production from agricultural areas that are not likely to grow.

3) We think that only environmental sensitivity is sufficient for the sustainability of agricultural enterprises. And you?

‍‍

REPLY:

Having environmental awareness is, of course, one of the most beautiful features to have. However, when it comes to the sustainability of agribusiness, there are other details that we need to be sensitive about. The sustainability of planet earth is our primary goal for the increases we need to achieve in agricultural production, we don't even need to discuss it!

Therefore, we define sustainable agriculture as “meeting the increasing demands for production without compromising the natural resources on which agriculture depends, such as land, water, energy and input raw materials”. However, when it comes to sustainability, besides reducing environmental risks, the sustainability of economic and social life should also be taken into account. Therefore, each of the environmental, economic and social dimensions of Sustainable Agriculture should be evaluated together, not separately.

4) We know that economic sustainability, which is one of the three dimensions of Sustainable Agriculture, is only concerned with the economic situation of the farmers. Do you think this is true?

‍‍

REPLY:

If you agree with us at this point, you are wrong too. Let's explain why not...

Sustainable agricultural activities are necessary for the continuation of world life.
3 different dimensions of sustainable agriculture.
Sustainable Agriculture, which means meeting the increasing demands for production without risking the natural resources on which agriculture depends, such as land, water, energy and input raw materials, has 3 different dimensions: social, economic and environmental.

Yes, the correct use of our planet's limited agricultural areas and resources, that is, environmental sensitivities, is the main issue of sustainability. However, when it comes to sustainability, the sustainability of the lives of farmers, who meet the economic needs of their families from agricultural production and improve their social lives, also comes into play.

This sustainability is important not only for farmers, but also for stakeholders who meet their daily and social needs from all sectors related to crop production. In other words, the economic and social lives of all producers, agricultural service providers and all stakeholders in the agro-industrial sector should be taken into consideration.
