The number of farms infected with Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV) in the Netherlands increased from 29 to 34.

According to the report of the Dutch food and consumer product safety authority (NVWAM), the virus has been successfully eradicated in 2 farms.

The distribution of 29 farms exposed to the virus as of September in the Netherlands is as follows:

  • Westland area, 12 farms
  • Hollands Kroon area, 5 farms
  • Reimerswaal area, 3 farms
  • Brielle area, 3 farms
  • Steenbergen district, 2 farms
  • District of Haarlemmermeer, 1 farm
  • Horst aan de Maas district, 1 farm
  • Goeree-Overflakkee area, 1 farm
  • Zuidplas district, 1 farm
  • Noordoostpolder area, 1 farm

Growers infected with Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus (ToBRFV) have been reported to lose between 5 % and 30% of their crops. According to the Dutch food and consumer product safety authority (NVWAM), it is estimated that removing and disposing of produce from infected farms will cost growers between 5 and 10 thousand euros per hectare.

Success in combating ToBRFV on 9 farms
