Summary
Sticky cards and traps are an important tool for growers to identify beneficial insects and/or change in pesticide dynamics and when they should be applied.

Sticky card traps and rolls attract flying insects with their colors. The yellow color is attractive to whiteflies, gallery flies, mushroom flies and some aphids. Blue mainly attracts thrips. Black colors also attract the tomato moth, Tuta absoluta .

Sticky card traps and rolls are useful for detecting pests at an early stage and monitoring population developments, as well as playing an active role in mass pest control.

T. absoluta , which has a very high damage potential, is the main pest in tomato cultivation in open fields and greenhouses. Larvae damage every part and every stage of the tomato plant except the root. The larvae emerging from the eggs enter the fruit, leaves, leaves and plant stems and feed.

The larvae feed on the leaves of the tomato by opening galleries between the two epidermis. In addition, thanks to the galleries opened in the green part of the plant, they can completely dry the plant.

In dense pest populations (in dry conditions), they cause 50-100% product losses, especially in tomatoes. Since all biological stages of the pest can be found in tomato fruit, the pests are carried by tomato fruit. Seedlings and other transport materials can also be a source of contamination.

  • Care should be taken that the seedlings are not contaminated with pests,
  • It is necessary to remove and destroy the leaves, fruits and plants contaminated with the pest from the production area,
  • Weeds belonging to the Solanaceae family, which can host pests in and around the production area, should be struggled,
  • Since the larvae and pupae of the pest can survive in the plant residues left in the field, it is important to destroy the plant residues after harvest in the infected areas,
  • Product rotation (placement of products not related to the Solanaceae family),
  • Deep plowing at the end of the season after harvest,
  • Fertilization and irrigation in accordance with the cultivation technique,
  • Closing the entrance and ventilation openings in the greenhouse with tulle so thin that pests cannot enter, and making the entrance doors a double entrance by covering them with tulle if possible,
  • Realizing a residue-free product management by contributing to the resistance management by using biological control products on time and in place against the pest,
  • Contributing to an effective observation and fight against Tuta absoluta pest by placing black sticky card and roll traps and their pheromones in the greenhouse and/or field.

Black sticky traps are indispensable for the detection and monitoring of Tuta absoluta , also called the South American tomato moth.

As is known, the larvae of Tuta absoluta attack the leaves and fruits of the wild plant family called dog currant, and the most affected species is tomato.

Black sticky traps also have the advantage of not attracting beneficial insects such as Macrolophus pygmaeus and Nesidiocoris tenuis , which are effective predators of Tuta absoluta eggs and young larval stages.

Use of

Place sticky traps near potential invasion points. It should be placed near doors and facades, but preferably near rows of plants. For new plantings and relatively young crops, sticky traps should be applied just above the ground, ie 15-25 cm on average and horizontally.

For more mature plants, traps can be hung a little higher if appropriate, again horizontally (approximately 50 cm above the ground).

Tuta absoluta is naturally affected by the black color compared to other colors and sticks to the plates due to this attractiveness. Then count the pests in the traps at least once a week to get a representative result.

Black traps are placed parallel to the ground at appropriate intervals, with 5 traps per decare ( 1 trap per 200 m² on average) for observation and counting in Tuta absoluta control and the tuta pheromone is attached to it. The dose of use may vary depending on the density of the pest population and this rate may vary between 5-20 traps per decare if mass control is to be carried out.

Both surfaces of Tuta absoluta traps are covered with a special adhesive. Once this black sticky card trap is filled with Tuta absoluta butterflies, the other sticky surface should be used.

If the other surface is filled with the Tuta absoluta butterfly, a new Biobest black sticky trap must be provided. It is recommended to be used with the pheromone and the black sticky traps should be carefully monitored until the pheromone expires and should be replaced when its surface is filled with butterflies. The pheromones should be carefully removed from the old traps with gloves, and a new black sticky card should be placed on the surface of the traps.

Tuta pheromones should not be touched by hand.

  • The long-lasting glue is non-toxic, water-repellent and does not dry out in hot conditions.
  • Adhesive plates retain their shape even at high temperatures and relative humidity.
  • With careful observation, it detects the invasions in a timely manner and intervenes at the ideal moment, making the struggle more effective.
  • In addition to being a good observation tool, its most important advantage is that it can be used very effectively in mass pest control.

  • Quick and easy placement saves time and labor,
  • It is produced with a special and innovative technology,
  • Provides effective solutions with additional pheromone capsule,
  • Does not attract beneficial insects,
  • Long-lasting material with high mechanical resistance, maintaining its hardness and color for a long time,
  • High adhesion capacity, resistant to water and dehydration,

Always store in a cool ( 5-8 ºC ) and dry place.

Leave in the shade at room temperature for at least 24 hours before use.

Rolls should be placed perpendicular to the floor, no higher than 1 meter from the top edge of the belt, while still stretching and keeping the tape taut.

Biobest recommends the use of suspension frames (suspension frames for roller traps) for placing the bands.

It is ideal for strategic use in tomato and eggplant crops.
