Nasser Ahmed al-Khalaf, the owner and general manager of Agrico, a private agricultural development company from Qatar, said that the vegetable production, which was around 40,000 tons in the past years; He said active farms in Qatar reached 60,000 tons this year due to the increase in cultivation and greenhouse areas.

Nasser Ahmed al-Khalaf also pointed out that with the contribution of advanced agricultural technologies, cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, lettuce, bell peppers, onions, beans, red peppers and other green leafy vegetables can be grown in the country even in summer.

Agrico has developed an advanced hydroponic system that is pesticide-free and can produce vegetables and fruit organically year-round.

Stating that Qatar has started to export its advanced hydroponic systems to the region, Nasser Ahmed al-Khalaf said that the 1 million m2 farm they developed in Oman will be ready for production next year.

Al-Khalaf expressed his confidence that the volume of vegetable production in Qatar will continue to increase every year, stating that their aim is to increase not only the amount of production, but also the production season.

Stating that they have farms that produce vegetables throughout the year with the technology they use, Al-Khalaf also expressed his satisfaction that some other farms also use this technology that belongs to them.

The increasing demand for fresh vegetables has enabled many inefficient local farms in Qatar to become active by adopting hydroponic production.
