There is no need to give pagefuls of praise on water management, unfortunately, we still have a long way to go in the world and in our country.

With the effect of global warming, access to clean water is decreasing day by day. Because climate change creates water stress in countries. Due to the uncontrolled use of underground water resources as if they will never be exhausted; On the Konya Plain, where water rose from ten meters 50 years ago, you now have to descend to 400 meters.

A similar situation is experienced in the Thrace Region, where there is water-intensive industrialization and excessive immigration. During the COVID-19 pandemic, water consumption in homes and workplaces has increased by 10-15 % . When water consumption increases by 30 % on a global scale in the coming periods, a dark picture awaits our world in 2050. However, the most fundamental right of humanity; access to quality, safe and clean drinking water.

According to the United Nations, World Health Organization, UNICEF Progress report;

  • 2.1 billion people do not have access to clean water.
  • 263 million people carry water to their homes half an hour away.
  • 159 million people drink untreated water from surface water sources.

With the global population reaching 7.8 billion as of January 2021, the focus on sustainable agriculture and newer agricultural technologies remains at the center. There are many areas where we can create innovation in agriculture as a country, we just need to focus on the need rather than the solution we need to do.

The “Precision Water Leakage Detection Using Machine Learning and Real-Time Sensor Data” study, which is at the bottom of the page and which I have shared with you, is a model that we can achieve a lot in terms of using our 32 billion m3 potential in agricultural irrigation efficiently.

This channel, which is widely mismanaged in our country, has a water loss of approximately 43% due to a third leak. The article presents a system proposal based on a wireless sensor network designed to monitor water distribution systems such as irrigation systems that enable precise location of water leaks with the aid of an autonomous learning algorithm. The developed system is a real application showing that it can detect leaks with 75% accuracy.

I say that; Water is one of the most important resources for agriculture and irrigation decisions are very important for growers. Therefore, it is strategic for our farmer to get more information about water management and efficiency, and to control the tools, for a good growth process.

Among the sites that I have reviewed for you and that I recommend you to review in terms of giving an idea; SmartWatering used sensors to automate the irrigation process and decisions based on soil and climatic conditions. HydroPoint offers solutions focused on a system that can provide insight into water flows and leaks.
