World Tomato Production in 2020 Exceeded 186,000 Million Kilos

In 2020, 5,051,983 hectares of tomato cultivation area in the world; 186.821.22 million kilos of tomatoes were produced.

China, the world's leading tomato producing country, produced 5 times more tomatoes than Turkey, 15 times more than Spain and 71 times more than the Netherlands in the 2020 season. With this production, China realized 34.67% of the tomato production in the world alone.

Worldwide tomato production in 2020 increased by 3.35% compared to the previous year and increased from 180,766.33 million kilos to 186.821.22 million kilos. During this period, the average yield per m2 in tomato production areas was 3.71 kg , exceeding the average yield of 3.59 kg in 2019.

Tomatoes

The Netherlands has become the country with the best performance in the world in 2020, with an average of 48.66 kilograms per m2, in tomato production, almost all of which is produced in greenhouses.

China, the world's largest tomato producer, produced 64,768,16 million kilograms (64,768,160 tons) of tomatoes with an average of 5,85 kg per square meter in an area of 1,107,485 hectares in 2020.

India, the second largest producer, produced 20,573 million kilos (20,573,000 tons) of tomatoes with a yield of 2.53 kg in an area of 812,000 hectares.

Turkey has become the third largest tomato producing country in the world with an average yield of 7,26 kg/m2 and a production of 13,204,01 million kilograms (13,204,010 tons) on an area of 181,879 hectares.

The United States, which ranks fourth, produced 12,227,4 million kilos (12,227,400 tons) of tomato with an average yield of 11,07 kg/m2 in an area of 110,439 hectares.

Egypt, the fifth largest producer, produced 6,731.22 million kilograms (6,731,220 tons) of tomatoes, with an average of 3.94 kg/m2 per square meter, in an area of 170.862 hectares.
